The Best of Guild Wars 2: Consumable Edition

This thread is dedicated to the Ash Legion Spy Kit and the former WvW, which permitted the use of planks and spiky fruit. Rest in peace dear friends- 2k13.

All jokes aside, without a doubt I'm an advocate for ethical (and unethical) use/abuse of Guild Wars 2 consumables :D:

I hope for this thread to be your go-to destination when you need something that your skill set can't necessarily achieve or when you want to keep it fresh in dungeon runs. Also, please don't hesitate to add to the list!

A few things to note:
  • AoE in Guild Wars 2 means 5 targets.
  • If I say "spammable" it means the item/skill has no recharge.
  • A few consumables have duplicates- similar consumables with exact or near functionality, but a different name and way to be attained.
  • A lot of consumables are sold by event npcs, so if you don't find the listed npc when you go out to purchase consumables, stay on the lookout for a nearby and possibly related event.
  • A lot of consumables are particularly useful for unending crowd-control on mobs.
  • Foods are consumables too! If you want to be extremely efficient in dungeon runs, remember to use applicable foods/potions!
  • The game has now been out long enough for the wiki to have articles on most things. It should be easy to search for npc names or anything else in this thread that you find unclear. Also, a growing list of all these consumable bundle items (including those which I don't feature) can be found here.

Let's get started!

Ascalon Tome: Gives your character the ability to cast a blue fire storm like elementalist ghosts in Ascalon. Can be used to scare allies because the fire storm is always denoted by a big red circle around the caster like enemy AoE. Very low damage, and not very useful. But hey, who doesn't want pretty blue fire? Sold by Historian Cerin, after his event, near the Refuge Sanctum Waypoint in Blazeridge Steppes.

Bomb: Spammable and gives your character a deployable bomb which causes a lot of AoE damage and knockdown. If you put foes up in a corner and spam this bomb, there's not much they can do because of the knockdown. Sold by Guard Muldoon, after his event, in the Nightguard Beach area of Harathi Hinterlands.
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons when your team balls up to exploit line of sight.

Deployable Mortar Kit: Gives your character the ability to deploy a high damage mortar. Sold by Legionnaire Virgrol Brashmar, after his event, in Fireheart Rise.
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons when your team balls up to exploit line of sight.

Experimental Telportation Gun: This gun gives everyone instead of just mesmers the ability to create portals. Even though they're short-range, it can prove very useful in numerous situations, and also gives your character a huge push forward, useful for running or jumping. Sold by Danka near Valance Tutory Waypoint in the Fisher's Eye Bridges area of Timberline Falls.
  • Possible application: LOL....

Fire Elemental Powder: Spawns an allied ember that spams lava font (creates 3 at a time like a real ember) and it's pretty deadly. It stacks with ogre pet whistles so you get two pets, and it only disappears if it dies! Sold by Jhalles Coalgrip, after his event, in the Fuller Cistern area of Fireheart Rise.
  • Possible application: Use for extra allies in dungeons or whilst exploring.

Flaming Effigy Piece: A consumable torch that serves as a light source and is also capable of a 10s burn. Sold by Kessis Ironbound, a level 8 renown heart karma merchant in Plains of Ashford.
  • Duplicates: Effigy Fragment.
  • Possible application: May be very useful to condition-specced characters without access to burning (e.g. pistol thieves/staff necros). However, I've never tested that theory.

Gear: An AoE (bounces from targets) spammable 2s stun. Completely disables foes and can really change the outcome of a battle. Also rather high damage output which is based on character level and power. Sold by Churnta'kurn in Skrittsburgh Center in Brisban Wildlands.
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons when your team balls up to exploit line of sight. Notable uses include permanently immobilizing veteran grawl shamans and disabling the lava elemental mobs in the volcanic fractal, disabling the harpies/golems in the asura jumping puzzle fractal, disabling dredge mobs in the dredge fractal, disabling ac mobs when your team uses line of sight in AC path 2. Just in general, if you want to make all of PvE super easy for your team, bring these along.

Grawl Ritual Totem: A spammable AoE 3s fear. Sold by Explorer Kindleblight at the Refuge Sanctum Waypoint in Blazeridge Steppes.
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons when your team balls up to exploit line of sight and to control mob movement.

Healing Seed Pod: Gives your character the ability to deploy a sylvari seed pod which heals and removes conditions from allies. Sold by Denton the Durable, after his event in the First Haven/Bad Omen Beach areas of Gendarran Fields.
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons when your team balls up to exploit line of sight.

Hylek Blowgun: Replaces your skill bar with hylek poison skills. Capable of stacking poison on single targets for 1m durations and has an AoE poison cloud. Sold by Ni-tlacua Hunter, after his event, in the Astrozintli Forelands area of Sparkfly Fen.
  • Possible application: May be useful to condition-specced characters without access to poison (e.g. eles).

Medical Kit: Replaces your bar with all healing skills which is useful for parties in some situations. Sold by Refugee Ejint near the Survivor's Encampment Waypoint in the Greyfern Expanses area of Metrica Province.

Miner's Explosive Charge: Gives your character the ability to deploy an explosive charge. After 10 seconds it results in a huge AoE damage and knockdown explosion. Sold by Seraph Soldier Dianna in the Viathan Lake area of Kessex Hills.
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons when your team balls up to exploit line of sight.

Molachev Cocktail: Gives your character a fiery cocktail which can be thrown to create a line of fire on the ground. The line of fire lasts for 20 seconds and applies 6 seconds of bunring per second for a max of 2 minutes. Sold by Leidulv Groat slightly east of the vista in the Molensk area of Wayfarer Foothills.
  • Duplicates: Fire Bomb (bought with karma).
  • Possible application: May be very useful to condition-specced characters without access to burning (e.g. pistol thieves/staff necros).

Mortar Seed Turret: Gives your character the ability to deploy one of three turrets, that can either do damage or heal party members. Sold by Captain Bren near Falias Thorpe Waypoint in the Wychmire Swamp area of Caledon Forest after a nightmare court event.
  • Possible application: Use for extra damage or support in dungeons or whilst exploring.

Ogre Pet Whistle: Spawns a random ranger pet at your level. It does decent damage and lasts 5 minutes. The pet is even able to be ressurected after 5 minutes if you're quick enough. Sold by Fortho, Son of Malik, after his event, in Iron Marches.
  • Possible application: Use for extra allies in dungeons or whilst exploring.

Skale Venom: Buffs your character with the chance to inflict weakness and vulnerability on hit. Stacks with both types of nourishment. Sold by Rexavian Redfoot, after his event, in the Bloodfin Lake area of Iron Marches.

Spiky Fruit: A spammable projectile which homes to your target and causes a 2s knockdown. Also rather high damage output which is based on character level and power. Also extremely cheap. Sold by Warden Etain near the Solitaire Island point of interest, in the Village of Astorea area of Caledon Forest.
  • Duplicates: Rock (however this is only a 1s knockdown I believe).
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons to interrupt super annoying foes such as graveling breeders. Useful in the volcanic fractal to permanently knockdown veteran grawl shamans and in the asura jumping puzzle fractal to disable the golems at the end.

Wood Plank: Gives your character the ability to launch (extreme knockback) a target, which I believe was either 450 or 600 range. Sold by Slim Mikhart near a level 8 heart in the Lumbermill area of Queensdale.
  • Duplicates: Pirate's Peg Leg (bought with gold OR karma), Plank.
  • Possible application: Use in dungeons to interrupt super annoying foes such as graveling breeders. Useful in the volcanic fractal to launch veteran grawl shamans.

Underwater Net: A spammable 3s immobilize. Contrary to the name, useable above water. Sold by Valiant Raeloir in the Zinder Slope area of Brisban Wildlands.
  • Possible application: Useful in boss fights where immobilize is king. Examples include the large ooze and gorilla in Arah path 1, and the legendary dredge mining suit/ice elemental in the dredge fractal.

Thanks for reading, and remember to add your awesome consumable finds!

Is that a dupe of the Molachev Cocktail? Can't check in-game right now myself xD

Edit: Checked wiki- yes it is!

The Hylek Blowgun also gives thieves access to a 1100 range auto-attack; without it they can only reach 900.

This was good mention.

Also. Deployable Mortar Kit lasts for 1-2mins with 1m recharge time before you can build new one. The Mortar dies even if no one damages it.

Experimental portal gun, healing seed pods, and gear are now unusable in dungeons/fractals. Scale venom now takes up a technical consumable slot, so is also useless.

Wooden plank and spy kits still work.
